Our client is a rapidly growing specialty contracting organization providing technical field services and project-based solutions across the Eastern United States. Fueled by an aggressive acquisition strategy, the company has expanded into a multi-entity platform and is now building out the financial infrastructure to support its next phase of growth. This is a confidential search conducted on behalf of our client.
We are seeking an experienced Controller to serve as a key financial leader, overseeing accounting operations across a growing portfolio of entities. This role owns financial reporting, month-end close, job costing, fixed asset accounting, internal controls, cash flow management, and — critically — the financial integration of newly acquired companies and their ERP/systems environments. The ideal candidate pairs strong technical accounting depth with hands-on M&A integration experience and the leadership skills to build scalable processes in a fast-moving, growth-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Operations
Lead all accounting functions: AP, AR, billing, general ledger, cost accounting, revenue recognition, and financial reporting
Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close across multiple entities
Prepare monthly financial statements and management reporting packages
Coordinate annual budgeting and forecasting with operational and regional leadership
Maintain rolling 13-week cash flow forecasts
Partner with collections to improve cash collections and reduce DSO
Job Costing & Project Finance
Oversee WIP reporting, project accounting, revenue recognition, and contract profitability analysis
Partner with operational leaders on project margins, labor productivity, equipment utilization, and material costs
Ensure accurate tracking of fleet/fixed assets, capital expenditures, and depreciation
Mergers, Acquisitions & Systems Integration
Lead financial integration of acquired companies — standardizing accounting policies, procedures, and reporting
Drive consistency across entities while preserving operational flexibility
Partner with leadership to optimize the company’s Salesforce-based ERP platform and related financial systems
Improve processes for multi-entity consolidation, intercompany accounting, and project costing
Compliance, Controls & Audit
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local reporting requirements
Manage annual financial statement audits; serve as primary point of contact for external auditors
Coordinate lender reporting and financial covenant compliance
Design and continuously improve internal controls, approval workflows, and close procedures
Leadership
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team
Serve as a financial thought partner to executive and operational leadership
Qualifications
Required
8–12+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
Minimum 3 years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior financial leadership role
Strong experience managing accounting operations in a project-based environment
Proven track record leading close, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
Multi-entity accounting and consolidation experience
Experience managing external audits and lender reporting
Technical Expertise
Deep understanding of project accounting, job costing, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition
Direct experience integrating accounting systems and teams following M&A
Advanced Excel skills, including financial modeling
Experience with construction or project-based ERP systems
Education & Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required
Active CPA strongly preferred
CCIFP designation highly desirable
