Project Superintendent

This opportunity is with a well-established, multi-state heavy civil contractor known for delivering complex highway and bridge projects across the Northeast. We’re looking for an experienced Project Superintendent to lead field operations on heavy highway construction projects of varying size, scope, and complexity. This role is central to keeping our projects safe, on schedule, and on budget — bridging pre-construction planning with day-to-day execution in the field.

You’ll report directly to the Project Manager and provide leadership to a team of tradesmen, ensuring every job is properly planned before crews break ground, and that manpower, materials, and equipment are ready when the schedule calls for them.

Compensation: $150,000 – $175,000 base

What You’ll Do

Support CPM schedule development with constructability reviews and task-duration analysis
Draft conceptual work plans (access, crane lifting, fall protection, concrete formwork, shoring, etc.) for the engineering team to develop
Assist with equipment and materials buyout, verifying quantities for waste allowances and compatibility with other work
Review project plans for quantity errors or omissions and budgets with the Project Manager to flag savings or added costs
Conduct pre-construction surveys to support shop drawings and construction engineering
Prepare weekly Look Ahead schedules covering manpower, equipment, and materials
Coordinate daily and weekly with foremen, crews, and subcontractors to keep work flowing smoothly
Maintain a safe, clean job site and resolve safety concerns as they arise
Review equipment weekly, report repair or surplus needs, and track and return rented equipment
Coach and evaluate field and site personnel
Coordinate RFCs, RFIs, and Change Orders in the field, and document extra or disputed work in detail
Prepare daily reports covering extra work, subcontractor activity, quantities, and personnel
Draft field letters on extra work, schedule delays, potential change orders, RFIs, and RFCs
Support the foreman during high-volume or critical operations
Flag potential issues early, before they cost time or productivity
Keep the project team informed on key operations and open issues
Verify incoming deliveries and resolve vendor discrepancies
Help keep monthly schedules updated per contract requirements
Lead project punch lists at substantial completion
Provide cost breakdowns and estimating support during bids
Help maintain the company’s fleet of vehicles and heavy equipment

What We’re Looking For

Proven experience supervising heavy highway construction projects
Strong grasp of CPM scheduling, constructability, and field-level project management
Comfortable acting as the site’s competent person on safety
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple crews and coordinate with subcontractors simultaneously
A proactive, detail-oriented approach to problem-solving
